Film or Digital?

In this work, I juxtaposed pairs of photos I took using a digital camera and a film camera. Each pair of images is taken simultaneously at the same location, with the same angle and camera settings. With our lives becoming increasingly saturated by the digital, I want to reflect on the differences posed by digital and analog technology, by creating an immersive environment in this work for the audience to contemplate. I designed and created two semi-circular frames that surround the audience, where images are presented at eyesight. The frames as well as the poles that hold the frames were then decorated differently to emphasize the difference.

On each photograph presented, I also added decorations such as sound wave figures that represent the camera’s ‘clicks’ and circles of colors. The background of the photos is of gradient color, suggesting the sequential order of viewing these images.
